U.S. Envoy Tom Barrack Condemns Drone Strike on PM Masrour Barzani’s Office in Erbil

United States Special Presidential Envoy Tom Barrack strongly condemned a targeted strike against Erbil’s political leadership. Unknown attackers launched explosive unmanned aerial vehicles at senior Kurdistan Region government facilities early Monday.

The attack specifically targeted the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani. Furthermore, another explosive drone struck the residential compound of the regional security and intelligence chief.

Ambassador Tom Barrack released an official diplomatic statement regarding the dangerous escalation in Erbil on Monday. He described the strike as unacceptable aggression against vital American security partners in the region.

The American diplomat emphasized that Washington will not tolerate continued hostile actions against key strategic allies. Additionally, Barrack reiterated strong support for Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi during the security crisis.

Washington supports federal efforts to strengthen national sovereignty and bring all armed factions under state authority. Meanwhile, regional counter-terrorism forces launched comprehensive investigations across the targeted areas following the explosions.

Security officials identified two Iranian-made Hadid-110 kamikaze drones as the primary weapons used in the strike. Fortunately, emergency responders confirmed that the early morning air assault caused no human casualties.

Investigators are currently assessing structural damage at both targeted sites to determine the full operational impact. Consequently, local authorities increased security measures around sensitive diplomatic and government facilities throughout the regional capital.

The incident highlights growing security challenges facing the Kurdistan Region amid broader Middle Eastern tensions. Consequently, foreign diplomats view the attack as a serious threat to Kurdish government institutions.

Armed groups have increasingly used unmanned aerial systems to conduct attacks against strategic political targets. Therefore, international observers are urging Baghdad to strengthen measures against non-state armed groups.

Federal investigators continue analyzing debris from the recovered Hadid-110 drones to determine their launch origins. Meanwhile, local security agencies maintain heightened readiness as authorities conduct their broader strategic assessment.
