Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the first Zakho International Fair, signaling a new era for the city’s economy. Over 100 local and foreign companies participated, marking a milestone for trade and investment in the region. The fair highlights Zakho’s rise as a strategic commercial hub in Kurdistan.
The event took place in a modern facility built on an 8,600-square-meter site, including 4,000 square meters of green space. The center features a stage, guest seating, restaurant, conference halls, advanced ventilation, fire safety systems, continuous power supply, and a 13,000-square-meter parking area. Officials said the design allows smooth access for visitors while protecting the daily activities of nearby institutions.
Prime Minister Barzani described the fair as a symbol of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to economic growth and administrative decentralization. “This fair shows that Zakho is ready to host international businesses and strengthen trade,” he said.
The Zakho International Fair is part of a broader strategy to develop the city’s infrastructure. The administration plans specialized fairs in sectors such as tourism, medicine, books, and automobiles. These events aim to create opportunities for investors, expand local markets, and enhance professional expertise in the region.
The city’s transformation is visible across multiple projects. The new Zakho Corniche has improved the riverside with promenades, green spaces, and modern facilities. A 40-meter-high fountain, featuring lights, lasers, and music, is under construction to attract tourists and boost local commerce. Renovations of the historic market preserve cultural heritage while integrating modern amenities.
Since the establishment of the Zakho Independent Administration, authorities have launched 286 development projects, covering roads, education, healthcare, and tourism. Streets now meet international standards, while historic landmarks like the Delal Bridge remain central to the city’s identity.
Barzani emphasized that the fair represents more than a single event. “This fair reflects our vision for decentralized governance, targeted economic development, and international cooperation,” he said. By drawing global businesses and showcasing modern infrastructure, Zakho is securing its role as a key trade and investment hub for the Kurdistan Region.
