Kurdistan Democratic Party leader Masoud Barzani met with a US diplomatic delegation in Erbil to discuss ongoing American military support for the Kurdistan Region. During the meeting, Barzani welcomed newly appointed US Consul General Gwendolyn Green and bid farewell to outgoing Consul General Steve Fagin. He wished them both success in their respective duties.
Barzani thanked Fagin for his dedicated work to strengthen relations between Washington and the Kurdistan Region. He also praised his role in enhancing the capabilities of the Peshmerga Ministry. In addition, Barzani highlighted the importance of US support since 1991, noting its role during the fall of the former regime and in the fight against ISIS.
Fagin expressed deep gratitude for the cooperation he received during his tenure. He acknowledged Barzani’s continuous support and the strong coordination with Kurdistan’s institutions. Moreover, he discussed the latest political developments, including the upcoming parliamentary elections and the formation of a new regional government. He also commended Barzani for his efforts to reduce political tensions.
Green described Barzani as a “legendary leader” and emphasized her commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties. The talks also covered ongoing regional challenges, the peace process in Turkiye, and the evolving situation in Syria.
