The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has strengthened local healthcare with the opening of a state-of-the-art Pediatric Hospital in Zakho. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the facility, promising that children will never need to travel elsewhere for medical care.
“This hospital provides excellent care for our youngest citizens,” Barzani said during the ceremony. “Families can trust that everything their children need is available here.”
The opening marks a major step in improving healthcare capacity in Zakho and Duhok province. It coincides with the fourth anniversary of the Zakho Independent Administration, highlighting the city’s rapid development as a hub for essential services and tourism.
Barzani toured the hospital, praising its design, equipment, and readiness. He emphasized that the facility will set a benchmark for future medical projects across Kurdistan. “Our mission continues. We will expand services to ensure health and treatment reach every citizen,” he said.
The hospital also reflects the KRG’s strategy to reduce the need for families to travel long distances for specialized pediatric care. For years, children in many regions required trips to larger cities or abroad. Now, families in Zakho can access high-standard medical care locally.
Officials noted that the hospital complements other ongoing development projects, including new schools, public parks, and infrastructure improvements. Barzani stressed that these initiatives are part of a broader effort to empower local governance, improve living standards, and make services more responsive to community needs.
“The Zakho Pediatric Hospital is a symbol of hope and progress,” Barzani concluded. “It represents our commitment to health, our children, and the future of Kurdistan.”
The facility already serves as a center for advanced pediatric treatment, reinforcing the city’s role as a model for regional healthcare development.
