Professor Aziz Barzanji, a Kurdish physicist and lecturer at Soran University, has ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for the third year in a row. This year, his global ranking improved compared to previous years, highlighting his growing impact in the scientific community.
According to data from UNICEF, more than 10 million researchers across various fields are registered globally. Stanford University, ranked among the top universities, evaluates millions of scientists annually and selects the top 2% based on research impact, citations, and academic contributions. Professor Barzanji consistently appears on this prestigious list due to his significant publications and influential research in physics.
Professor Barzanji expressed his gratitude, stating that consistent work and dedication help improve global scientific standing year after year. Last year, he ranked 167,507th globally, while this year he improved to 76,527th. His recognition stems from detailed scientific contributions, published papers, and the practical applications of his research in the field of physics.
Born in 1973 in Erbil, Aziz Abdullah Aziz Barzanji earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Salahaddin University in 1998. He completed a Master’s in Material Science in 2004 at the same university and another Master’s in Theoretical Physics at Old Dominion University, USA, in 2009. He then obtained a PhD in Material Science from the University of Leicester, UK, in 2014. Currently, he serves as a professor of nanotechnology at Soran University and has authored over 140 scientific publications.
Experts say his inclusion in the top 2% of global scientists demonstrates the growing influence of Kurdish researchers in international science and highlights the importance of sustained academic effort and innovation.
