Prime Minister Masrour Barzani attended the Pirmam autumn festival on Sunday, reaffirming the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) strong support for agriculture and local products.
The event, held in Erbil province, showcased the region’s agricultural progress and the KRG’s vision to make the Kurdistan Region a self-sufficient “food basket.” The festival featured around 40 booths, where farmers displayed fruits, vegetables, and local goods directly to consumers.
Barzani’s visit reflected his administration’s ongoing efforts to help farmers, improve food security, and promote domestic production. His government’s agricultural policy aims to link farmers and consumers more effectively while reducing dependence on imports.
The Pirmam festival is part of a broader push to strengthen both agriculture and tourism in the Kurdistan Region. Earlier this month, a similar event at the Shameran Resort in Derbendikhan highlighted women’s creativity, as more than 35 participants presented traditional Kurdish dishes and handmade crafts.
According to the KRG’s Tourism Board, cultural and agricultural events now attract thousands of visitors and play a major role in the region’s economic diversification.
Prime Minister Barzani emphasized that supporting local farmers is not just an economic goal but a path toward a prosperous, sustainable, and resilient Kurdistan.
