President Nechirvan Barzani receives Doha Forum invitation as Qatar seeks stronger ties

President Nechirvan Barzani receives Doha Forum invitation during a key diplomatic meeting in Erbil. The Qatari consul general delivered the formal invite on behalf of Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The Kurdistan Region Presidency confirmed the meeting took place on Wednesday. Consul General Hussein Ali Saleh al-Fazala personally handed the invitation to President Barzani. The forum is set to take place on December 6 and 7 in Doha.

President Nechirvan Barzani thanked the Qatari official for the invitation and expressed interest in attending. He emphasized the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to closer cooperation with Qatar.

President Nechirvan Barzani receives Doha Forum invitation as both sides discussed enhancing economic and diplomatic ties. They reviewed prospects for Qatari investment in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Fazala reiterated Qatar’s desire to strengthen relations with Erbil. The meeting underlined mutual goals, including increased business activity and strategic dialogue.

The invitation reflects growing ties between Erbil and Doha. Last year, Qatar opened a consulate in the Kurdistan Region’s capital. This move marked a milestone in formal diplomatic relations.

Qatar had previously reopened its embassy in Baghdad in 2015. It followed a long period of strained ties dating back to the Gulf War. The restoration of diplomatic channels shows a renewed interest in engaging with Iraq and Kurdistan.

President Barzani receives Doha Forum invitation amid continued outreach from Qatar. In February, he met Qatari Minister of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Khulaifi in Munich. That meeting focused on regional challenges and the Kurdish issue in Syria.

The Doha Forum will bring together global leaders to discuss peace, development, and regional cooperation. President Barzani’s potential attendance signals the Kurdistan Region’s active role in global diplomacy.

The Kurdistan Region continues to strengthen its international presence. Its leadership remains committed to economic growth and political partnerships with key allies.
