KRG Foreign Relations Chief Meets EU Representative and European Consuls in Erbil

Safeen Dizayee, head of the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations, met the EU representative and several European consuls general in Erbil. The meeting focused on strengthening relations, reviewing security issues, and discussing political developments in Iraq and the wider region.

Officials said the talks highlighted the need to maintain stability in the Kurdistan Region. They also discussed economic reforms and responses to recent security threats, including drone and missile attacks. Both sides stressed the importance of continued diplomatic cooperation during regional tensions.

Dizayee also informed the diplomats about his recent European tour. He visited France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Austria. Also, he shared details of his meetings with European officials. He also thanked the consuls general in Erbil for their support during the visit.

Security issues dominated the discussion. Dizayee outlined the KRG’s position on recent attacks targeting the region. He said the Kurdistan Region does not take part in regional conflicts. He also stressed that the government prioritizes peace, stability, and civilian safety.

The meeting also addressed relations between Erbil and Baghdad. Officials discussed Iraq’s efforts to form a new federal government. They also reviewed Kurdish participation in national institutions. Dizayee said he remains optimistic that both sides can resolve outstanding issues through constitutional dialogue.

They also discussed efforts to support long-term economic growth. Dizayee reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding cooperation with European partners.
