Kurdistan Dana Gas Resumes Kormor Field Operations

Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region – Dana Gas announced the full resumption of its operations at the Kormor gas field in the Kurdistan Region. The company confirmed the restart on Monday, April 13, 2026, after weeks of disrupted activity.

According to the statement, operations at the Kormor facility had continued intermittently in recent weeks. However, the company has now restored full and stable production. Moreover, officials confirmed that technical teams worked intensively to ensure a safe restart.

Dana Gas emphasized that it coordinated closely with government authorities during the disruption. The company implemented strict safety procedures to protect its workforce and infrastructure. Furthermore, it prioritized the safety of employees throughout the process.

The company explained that maintaining operational security remained its top concern. Therefore, it adopted precautionary measures to safeguard both personnel and energy assets. These steps ensured a controlled and secure return to full activity.

The Kormor gas field lies in the Chamchamal district in Sulaimani province. It ranks among the largest gas production sites in the Kurdistan Region and the wider country. Additionally, it serves as a critical source of fuel for local electricity generation plants.

Pearl Petroleum, in partnership with Dana Gas, manages production at the field. Together, they supply gas to power stations that support electricity generation across the region. Consequently, any disruption directly affects power availability.

In recent years, the Kormor field has faced repeated security threats. Attacks involving drones and missiles targeted the site several times, especially during 2023 and 2024. One major attack in April 2024 killed four foreign workers and injured several others.

These incidents forced temporary shutdowns of operations. As a result, electricity supply across the Kurdistan Region experienced significant disruptions. However, the latest restart signals a return to stability in energy production.

Officials and observers described the resumption as a critical step for the region’s energy sector. They noted that stable gas production supports both economic activity and public services.

Dana Gas concluded by reaffirming its commitment to safe and continuous operations. The company pledged to maintain strong coordination with authorities and ensure long-term stability at the Kormor field.
