The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) says more than 800,000 public sector beneficiaries now use bank cards through the MyAccount financial inclusion program.
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Finance and Economy announced the latest figures and described the initiative as a key part of the government’s banking reform strategy. Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani launched the MyAccount program in 2023. Since then, the KRG has worked to expand banking access and modernize salary distribution systems across the Kurdistan Region.
According to the ministry, more than 900,000 beneficiaries have already registered for bank accounts through the initiative. In addition, the program sends direct notifications to users about registration procedures, card delivery, and salary payments. Officials say the system reduces administrative delays and improves financial access for public employees. At the same time, participating banks continue expanding banking infrastructure throughout the region.
As part of the project, banks installed more than 600 automated teller machines (ATMs) across the Kurdistan Region. Consequently, beneficiaries can now withdraw cash more easily and avoid long waiting times at payment centers. Furthermore, the ministry expects the number of ATMs to surpass 1,000 before the project ends. Officials added that banks continue installing the machines in line with regulations issued by the Central Bank of Iraq.
The KRG considers the MyAccount initiative an important step toward digital banking reform. Moreover, officials believe the project will strengthen electronic financial services and reduce dependence on cash-based transactions across the Kurdistan Region.
